Kemar Roofe insists he does not know where his future lies after netting his second double in a fortnight to help Oxford United to a 3-0 win at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

The forward, on loan from West Brom, took his tally to four goals in five games, sandwiching a superb team move, which was finished off by Danny Rose.

But while the 22-year-old is revelling in a fine spell, he is uncertain about where he will play next season.

U’s boss Michael Appleton joked he substituted the forward 15 minutes from time so he would not attract attention from other clubs by scoring a hat-trick.

The club are very keen to secure a deal for Roofe, who is out of contract at The Hawthorns this summer, and have held talks with his agent.

But the player has given little away about where he would like to be next season.

He said: “I don’t know. I just want to play professional football, wherever it is.

“I want to, like I did (at Tranmere), score goals and enjoy my football.

“I’m not on at my agent every day asking what’s going on. I’m just letting my football do the talking.

“As soon as I start thinking about contracts and where I’m going to be next season it will affect my game. Then I’ll be struggling.

“If I enjoy my football, that’s when I get the best out of myself.”

For the moment, Roofe is aiming to find an extra gear in the remaining two games of his loan and build on the goals at Tranmere.

He said: “I still don’t believe everyone has seen the best of me.

“I think I can still perform better and I’m a good finisher.

“I can score different types of goals, hopefully I’m showing people I can do that.”

He added: “The first one was a header - people don’t think I can head the ball, but I can.

“It was a great ball (from Sam Long), literally on my head. I just had to time the jump.

“Then the second one is great work from Hylts (Danny Hylton), he was the one who made the goal, I just had to get it on target.”

In the wake of the defeat, which left Tranmere Rovers two points from safety with two games remaining, Micky Adams left as manager by mutual consent.
