Work is almost finished to restore a train carriage that brought Sir Winston Churchill to his final resting place in Oxfordshire.

The former Southern Railway parcel van has been restored for the 50th anniversary of the televised funeral at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral on January 30, 1965.

The wartime Prime Minister is buried at St Martin’s Church, Bladon.

The carriage is being restored at a National Railway Museum site in County Durham. It will go on display at its museum in York from January 30 to May 3.
