AN 11-week-old baby whose death police are treating as suspicious has been named as Jayden Saxton.

He died on Tuesday, November 18 at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children after collapsing at his Faringdon home two days previously.

He lived with parents – forklift truck driver Jordon Saxton, 21 and sales assistant Tracy Ray, 26 – in a flat in Untons Place.

Opening an inquest into his death yesterday, Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter said a report from the Avon & Somerset Coroner said Jayden was at home with his father when “he stopped breathing”.

He said there was “evidence of injuries” but that a post-mortem examination had not yet given a cause of death. Jayden was born in Oxford on August 26.

An ambulance was called and paramedics started CPR before he was taken to Great Western Hospital, Swindon. He was later transferred to Bristol.

Police later attended the flat and arrested a 21-year-old on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, who is on police bail until February 2. The arrested man has not been publicly identified.

Police spokeswoman Francine Rodriques said on Friday the force are treating the death as suspicious. She added the investigation is being listed as a sudden unexplained death of an infant.

Mr Salter said it was a “very sad case” and he would not set a date for a full inquest until he had more information from police and a post-mortem.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse commander Supt Andy Boyd said officers involved had been affected by the case.

He told the Oxford Mail: “It doesn’t matter how experienced you are as an officer, dealing with the death of a young child is always extremely difficult. I am aware that many of those involved in the investigation have given their own children an extra special hug when they have got home.”

He thanked residents of Untons Place who “provided refreshments and support” to officers who stayed at the scene until Friday while investigators worked at the flat. He said: “The officers involved were extremely grateful for the kindness shown.”
