DETECTIVES are unlikely to know what killed an 11-week-old boy from Faringdon for at least a week.

A post-mortem examination on the baby was carried out yesterday but the definitive results will not be known for several days, police have said this afternoon.

The baby - whose identity has not been released - died on Tuesday night. Police had been called to his home in Untons Place at about 3am on Monday, about nine hours after he was said to have collapsed, a Thames Valley spokeswoman said.

A 21-year-old man from Faringdon was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm on Monday and released on police bail until February 2.

The baby was initially taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon and was then moved to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where he died of his injuries at 10.30pm on Tuesday.
