A Harwell company will benefit from a £2.6m funding boost from the Government and aerospace industry.
Of £30m total funding in the South East, £19m is public funding, run by the Technology Strategy Board on behalf of the Aerospace Technology Institute.
The money supports 11 projects covering a broad spectrum of aerospace technology research.
As part of this investment £2.6m will support research at Oxsensis Ltd, which has a base at Harwell Oxford and manufactures pressure sensors in aircraft wings and landing gear.
Ian Macafee, chief executive officer of Oxsensis, which employs 20 staff, welcomed the investment in research it is conducting with Parker Aerospace and a Bristol-based subsidiary to develop new aerospace fuel pump and valve technology.
He said: “This follows a project we signed with Parker at the Paris Airshow 12 months ago for fuel tank instrumentation.”
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: “The UK’s aerospace industry is going from strength to strength and helping our economic recovery.
“I want to ensure the UK remains at the cutting edge of aerospace innovation, which is why I am pleased to announce that we are investing £154m for research to explore new technologies like the 3D printing of plane parts and creating lighter, greener aircraft.
“By working in partnership with business, we are building a stronger, more balanced economy, creating more jobs and sharing the wealth equally.”
