A heatwave warning has been issued as temperatures are predicted to hit 29 degrees this Friday.

The Met Office warned there is a 60 per cent probability of a heatwave across Oxfordshire between 8am on Friday and 8am on Sunday with a very humid night likely on Friday.

It has been classified as level two, with level one being the lowest and level four being the highest - when illness and death may occur among the fit and healthy, and not just in high-risk groups.

Thunderstorms on Saturday could lead to lower temperatures but it will remain humid and the very young, very old and those with chronic diseases have been advised to avoid the heat where possible.

29C a "level two heatwave". Gosh! I'm surprised we're not being reminded to carry water, wear lots of sunscreen, stay in the shade. All good advice - but also common sense.

All we need is a weather forecast, not patronizing drivel about heatwaves.

It seems now for month it's been like the Costa Brava all week, then cloudy / rainy at the weekend. Come on Metoffice, this really isn't at all satisfactory!

Since when has a heat wave been deemed to be just one day. This week it is a Friday. Surely to be a heat wave it must last a least a week.

Is it me or is the media's obsession with the weather getting more extreme? If its 30 degrees for weeks on end then its a story, one or two days of it and it really isn't. You expect it from the more ridiculous tabloids like the Express and Star but surely the more sensible media should be more grown up?

You are right they are trying to make every hot/cold/wet/dry day into an extreme weather event.
