HUNDREDS of people have taken part in two protests through Oxford against Israel’s attacks on Palestine with campaigners demanding Government action and in-depth reporting.

About 700 people took part in a peaceful protest through the city centre on Monday to raise awareness of the situation in Gaza.

Organiser Dr Hojjat Ramzy said: “The attacks against Gaza are wholly unjust and must stop immediately. Israel is committing genocide. We urge David Cameron to intervene to negotiate an immediate ceasefire so that peace may be put back on the table.”

A second protest, organised by the Oxford Palestine Solidarity Campaign, was held last night outside BBC Oxford on Banbury Road.

The group said: “The BBC’s reporting of Israel’s deadly assault on Gaza fails to explain the years of occupation and siege Palestinians have endured. We say, give the full picture.”

Retired teacher David Hillman, 66, of Boundary Brook Road, said: “We are not really protesting against staff at BBC Oxford, but more the institution of the BBC as a whole. There have been many examples of its editorial bias when covering Israel and Palestine – it always portrays Israel as being under attack.”
