A twist on Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth is the latest production by a theatre company which brings the classics to city venues.

The tragedy – about a nobleman’s scheming to be crowned King of Scotland – will be held by Creation Theatre in the gardens of Lady Margaret Hall.

As Britain marks 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War, it is set in a hospital where the cast are recovering officers.

The production is set shortly after the end of the war, in a sanatorium not far from the Western Front.

The show will run from August 1 to September 13 at the Norham Gardens by the company, which has held shows at Headington Hill Park, the Cowley Mini plant and Oxford Castle.

Director Jonathan Holloway said: “It is a multi-layered event with lots of thrills and spills.”
