SINCE the privatisation of the Royal Mail we have become accustomed to receiving our post in the afternoon rather than first thing in the morning, but we cannot function properly with the closure of local post offices.

We once had post offices in even the smallest villages.

As the Oxford Mail reports, post offices are under the threat of closure, even in a heavily populated area like the Cowley Road, where the small post office closed without adequate explanation.

It is noticeable in the city centre post office that activity that generates income for the Post Office receives greater number of counter staff, and business customers do not have to wait as long for assistance.

When will we realise that market forces and privatisation does not offer the solution for the services our society requires?
