I WOULD like to offer a different viewpoint on the subject of the cystoscopy procedure that was referred to (Letters, May 1).

I recently suffered from a couple of urinary infections that happened quite close together and, for this reason, my GP arranged for me to have some exploratory work done.

I arrived at the Churchill and was immediately put at ease by the nurse I saw before going in for the procedure.

The team were brilliant. It was quick, very business-like (which help me relax) and above all, pain-free.

Yes, it is a little odd, and mildly uncomfortable, but certainly does not warrant a general anaesthetic and the risks associated with that.

Besides, why would you want to miss the chance of actually viewing the inside of one’s own bladder, as you are able to watch it all?

I always find it a little sad to see criticism of our NHS. It’s not perfect but I, for one, am extremely grateful they are there.

This procedure (it’s not surgery) is not painful and no-one should fear undergoing it.
