AS we contemplate the world’s problems – and especially Syria and the horrific saga of Aleppo played out daily on our TV screens – Christmas is a welcome and grounding influence.
As Santa readies his reindeer and sleigh and prepares for his chimney stack descents, spare a thought for the victims and the residents in Aleppo, a hell-hole of epic proportions.
Like a lingering December fog the problem’s have dragged on with stumbling hold-ups, but there is now a light at the end of the tunnel, albeit only a dim one, with a ceasefire and subsequent evacuations imminent. Christmas is amongst many things a time of celebration, goodwill to others and reflection and new beginnings.
Let’s raise a glass and cherish the light.
