I AM so pleased that the county councillors managed to award themselves a rise in their allowances last year.
It would have been such a shame if they had tried to get away with it this year.
We are told that they may abandon the real-time bus displays to save £140,000 (Oxford Mail, October 21), thereby leaving expensive equipment unused.
Perhaps if the allowances had not been raised, this cut would not be necessary.
Cllr Hudspeth is very smug when he refers to the Big Society; the cuts he and his ilk are proposing are affecting the most needed services, children’s centres, etc.
Oxfordshire County Council should remember that they were elected to represent the populace and should take some notice of the damage they are doing to the lives of ordinary people.
