THE right to protest is a fundamental part of our liberties. Freedom of speech is ingrained in our society and can be an effective way to demonstrate opposition to an idea, institute or even an individual.

As Prime Minister, David Cameron is always likely to be one of those indivduals targeted.

Who better to lobby than one of the most powerful men in the country?

He must expect him to be the focal point for campaign groups, protesters and irate citizens.

So it is no suprise his his home in Dean is the scene of many a demonstration.

But the Witney MP is also a human being doing a job, like the rest of us, and deserves some time to himself.

Should he have to endure calls from placard-waving people 24/7, even in the holiday season?

It is why the police have introduced a designated protest area, which allows those demonstrating a presence in the PM’s village of Dean but means he can relax at home without the fear of being targeted during his downtime.

Whatever one’s feeling is about the New Father’s 4 Justice group, it deserves to have its voice heard like any other group.

But its members must realise there is a line.

As people who are deprived time with their family, surely they should allow others the opportunity to enjoy theirs.
