It's a bit rich, quite literally, of Conservative Party leader David Cameron to bang on about how money should not be the most important thing in people's life, isn't it?

In case you hadn't heard Dave wants us to be less concerned about GDP (gross domestic product) and more bothered about GWB (general well being).

The sad reality is that for most of us money is fundamentally important because it pays bills, puts food in our mouths and clothes our children.

But then again if, as Dave does, you earn £127,757, have two homes, a chauffeur to drive your clothes to work and blag your way in to Posh and Becks' World Cup party why would you worry?

Nice work if you can get it, Dave.

Dave becomes a castaway this weekend when he makes his bow on Desert Island Discs, the cult Radio 4 programme hosted by Sue Lawley.

Presumably some of his records of choice will be Money Money Money, (Vote Blue go Green) Green Grass of Home and Wind (Turbine) Beneath my Wings.

The Lib Dems now control Oxford City Council with their seven executive board portfolio holders dubbed The Magnificent Seven' - meaning group leader John Goddard must be the Yul Brynner character.

There are 10 executive board members in total, so are the remaining three non-portfolio holders (two Labour, one Green) the Good, the Bad and the Ugly?

Oxfordshire County Council leader Keith Mitchell's refusal to participate in Oxford's Car Free Day this September has infuriated one correspondent from across the pond.

Mr Mitchell has snubbed the annual event saying he cannot do without his BMW Z3 for a day.

But Michael McGettigan of Philadelphia, USA, emailed Mr Mitchell and said: "Spending some time without your Z3 might help you do your job better - and perhaps make you a better person."

Could this force a U-turn? Watch this space to find out.

Green campaigner Craig Simmons got to grips with some unwanted recyclables this week when a burst sewage main flooded the basement of his house in Magdalen Road, East Oxford.

But game Mr Simmons, who you may recall lost his appeal to build an eco-friendly heat-generating conservatory at the same house earlier this month, managed to clear up the mess and shower in time for his daughter's birthday party.

Conservative-controlled Oxfordshire County Council's plan for a countywide unitary authority, which would effectively render the districts redundant, has not gone down well with some...in their own party.

Barry Norton, the Tory leader of West Oxfordshire District Council, said county council leader Keith Mitchell had made a tactical misjudgement.

He added: "I am really astounded he has gone against stated Conservative policy in suggesting he will look at a county unitary council.

"I fear Mr Mitchell has been spooked by the city council to put this forward.

"It is regrettable, premature and destabilising for district councils and their workforce."
