THE history of slang will go under the spotlight at an Oxford University lecture.
Academic Professor Sarah Churchwell will give the lecture 'The Language of the Jazz Age' at the Ashmolean Museum today.
She will explore the history of familiar terms that have their origins in the 1920s including words such as 'cool' and 'jazz'.
Other surprising terms with their origins almost 100 years ago include 'robot' and 'post-feminist'.
The lecture will take place between 1pm and 2pm and costs £6 to attend.
