OXFORD’S Lord Mayor Jean Fooks hosted a short ceremony to remember the fallen of the First World War.
She lit the fourth of four candles in the main hall of the town hall in St Aldate’s yesterday following a two-minute silence.
The first candle was lit in 2015 and all four have now been lit to mark the centenary of the war years.
Ms Fooks said she was delighted to host the ceremony, also attended by the Very Rev Charlotte Bannister-Parker, interim City Rector, and Lord Lieutenant Tim Steveson.
Miss Fooks said: “It was a very formal ceremony to remember the fallen and the importance of keeping the peace.”
