A 10,000sq ft former plant hire site is set to become a 91-home estate.

A group call The Granite Partnership has drawn up the plans for the former Amey site on the south side of Appleford Road, Sutton Courtenay.

In its application to Vale of White Horse District Council the partnership said it wanted to create ‘a sustainable residential development delivering up to 91 new homes, open space, play, new pedestrian routes and green infrastructure’, most likely with the main entrance on Appleford Road.

The group also pointed out that, while much of Sutton Courtenay retains a historic aspect with buildings dating back as early as the Norman Conquest, the site in question is already developed for light industry, though Amey moved out in December 2016.

It also opined that ‘the influence of Didcot Power Station extends across the wider landscape’.

The design of the homes themselves would be influenced by the local character, it said, including distinctive styles for different streets.

Of the 91 houses the company proposes 59 for the open market and 32 for social housing.

The council is aiming to make a final decision on the application by April 10.
