THREE roads in Summertown will be raised to improve safety as part of a wider maintenance project for Woodstock Road.

South Parade, Oakthorpe Road and Thorncliffe Road will all be raised just before their junctions with Woodstock Road to make the roads safer for all road users.

Oxfordshire County Council could approve the proposals on Thursday after they were welcomed during a consultation.

Four people did object, however, and said the treatments could damage vehicles but the council said cars would be going slow enough - approaching a junction - to avoid any damage.

Cycling campaign group Cyclox supported the plan but said the South Parade junction should be narrowed to encourage vehicles turning left to wait at the junction at a right angle to make it easier to see cyclists.

A decision will be made at County Hall on Thursday at 10am.
