COMMUNITIES from Hinksey to Hendred benefited from more than £107,000 in grants from Vale of White Horse District Council this month.

Of the total, the council gave £55,306 to communities close to where new homes have been built.

A grant of £10,833 was awarded to Stanford in the Vale Parish Council towards removing an electricity pylon from a site so it can use the space for recreation.

There are plans to build a new community building, sports pitches and play areas.

Grants totalling £6,050 were awarded to refurbish Royal British Legion clubs in Abingdon and East Challow.

A spokesperson for the Challow branch said: “This grant will allow the committee to agree the necessary roof repairs sooner than expected.

“This well-used hall is a social hub for the area and the improvements to the club will be appreciated by all club users.”

Kennington Parish Council received £4,750 to help forge ahead with plans for a new pavilion to be used by local clubs for sports and recreation.

Other grants included £4,088 to St Peter and Paul Church in North Hinksey to improve heating, toilets and windows, £1,000 to Snells Hall in East Hendred to upgrade lighting and £11,146 for a play area and defibrillator in Watchfield.
