A NEW youth centre has been opened in one of Oxfordshire's newest villages Heyford Park, near Bicester.

The Heyford Youth Centre was officially opened by MP for North Oxfordshire Victoria Prentis on Saturday, December 9, and hopes to provide more activities for young people in the area.

The new centre is part of the redevelopment in which hundreds of homes have been built off Camp Road in Upper Heyford on the site of former RAF Upper Heyford.

Mrs Prentis said: "It was an honour to be invited to open the new youth centre in Heyford Park.

"With a growing community, it is important that all age groups are provided with the necessary facilities.

"It is lovely to see the community spirit that has turned this vision into a reality."

The brainchild for the centre was newly registered charity Heyford Park Youth Group which was established in April 2017 by local residents.

One of the group founders Tom Beckett said: "Dave Beesley and I are very proud of this project, not just because we are providing a new youth facility, but because the whole community has contributed in some way to get us from our initial vision to a fully funded and furnished youth facility."

The group is based in a building provided by developers Dorchester Living.
