LANTERN bearers and a noise orchestra will take to the streets this weekend as Didcot holds its first light festival.

The illuminated procession will feature school children with homemade lanterns, Diwali-inspired dance and the 'funky percussive rhythms' of the makeshift noise orchestra, made up of volunteers from across the town.

It leaves from outside Sainsbury's at the bottom of the amphitheatre steps in Didcot’s Orchard Centre on Saturday at 5.30pm.

People wishing to join the choreographed dancing can join a free workshop at the Cornerstone at 10.30am.

Led by Didcot resident Aradhita Baral, who has recently moved from Delhi, participants will learn Indian-inspired dances and perform at the end of the procession.

There are also two workshops on Saturday at 11am and 2pm at the Didcot Railway Centre for people wishing to join the live band.

Participants, who do not need musical experience, will learn a simple rhythm in one rehearsal and then later gather together in the evening to lead the parade.
