A CHARTER promoting safer cycling in memory of Claudia Comberti who died after coming off her bike in Botley Road earlier this year will be launched tomorrow.

The Claudia Charter has been produced by friends of Ms Comberti, the Broken Spoke Bike Coop, Cyclox, city councillors and academics from Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute.

It is part of an important week for cycling in the city as the annual Cycling UK and Cyclenation conference will take place in Oxford on Friday and Saturday.

Cyclox co-ordinator, Kath Cochrane, said: "It is a big week for those who want to see more people travel by bike in and around Oxford.

"Tomorrow sees the launch of The Claudia Charter for safer cycling in the city.

"The charter was created following the tragic death of Claudia Comberti in Botley Road in May this year."

Those interested in safer cycling or those who know Ms Comberti are invited to the Tap Social, in North Hinksey from 6.45pm tomorrow for the launch.

Director of campaign group Transport Quality for Life, Lynn Sloman, and former cycling commissioner for London, Andrew Gilligan are among the speakers at the annual conference.

Cyclox representatives, Oxford University members, and cyclists across the city will address crowds at the two-day event.

Workshops will be held on road design, changing travel behaviour, promoting cycling in schools and universities and also how to help more women get on a bike

It begin at Rose Hill Community Centre at 10am on Friday and the following day's activities will take place at Cheney School, beginning at 10.30am.
