A CHARITY dedicated to providing support for people coping with dementia and their family carers has been given a cash injection by a house builder.
Daybreak Oxford, based in Long Ground, will receive £1,000 through Persimmon Homes’ match-funded Community Champions scheme.
The charity applied for the money to help provide much-needed services for people living with dementia in the area.
Fundraiser for Daybreak Laura Bristow said: “Dementia has become the biggest and most indiscriminate illness affecting our society and Daybreak provides treatment and support through person-centred care.
“We aim to ease social isolation and provide a therapeutic environment for people with dementia and, by doing this, help many couples stay together at home by delaying or avoiding permanent care.
“Daybreak staff are trained in the principle of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy which, after prescribed drugs, is the only other recognised treatment for dementia.
“Daybreak clubs help people to live well with dementia, giving them an improved sense of well-being and a better quality of life, whilst also providing a much-needed break for the family carer. We cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for their support.”
Director in charge of Persimmon Homes North London Damian Seddon said the company was happy to help a service that provides essential care for people with dementia in the county.
