Students from Oxford Brookes and Oxford University will take part in a £40,000 scheme to help them build stronger communities.
The funding for the One Community Forum project has come from The UPP Foundation, a charitable trust created by the University Partnerships Programme.
Working with Student Hubs, a charity that helps universities support students to tackle social challenges in their communities, the grant will fund the programme across three locations, one of which is Oxford, another Southampton and the third has yet to be decided.
The scheme will be spread over two years and focuses on links between town and gown.
To kick off the project, university and community partners, and students, recently came together to talk about issues affecting young people in Oxford. This helped students to develop project plans aimed at tackling the issues raised.
Wendy Vrij, Oxford Brookes engagement officer, said: "Enabling young people to make a positive impact in the world is core to our mission as a university.
"The One Community Forum offers a great platform to help align our social responsibility efforts with county-wide goals, share experiences with public, private and charitable organisations and work collaboratively towards increasing impact in the Oxfordshire youth sector."
