TWO county councillors are to lead a protest on Wallingford Bridge about plans to close it on a trial basis.
South Oxfordshire District Council is considering a trial closure of the bridge as part of a bid to improve air quality in the town’s High Street.
But Wallingford county councillor Lynda Atkins and Benson and Cholsey county councillor Mark Gray are opposed to the move and will be on the bridge today at 3.30pm to gauge residents’ views.
Ms Atkins said: “Air quality is a really difficult problem in the town but we don’t think a trial closure is the right way forward.
“We are very concerned about the impact a trial closure would have on traffic in Wallingford and in Crowmarsh Gifford.”
