A NEW play area has been rolled out at an Abingdon special school .

The Unicorn School now has a 410sqm activity space for youngsters carpeted with 26mm "wonder yarn" laid by artificial grass company LazyLawn.

Representatives from the company attended a celebratory event to christen the new play area, including mascot Lazy Larry.

The school's 70 pupils were given balloons and Lazy Larry cuddly toys.

The Unicorn School head of marketing Rowan Knowles said: "The children absolutely love their new play area – it really has made all the difference to play time.

"LazyLawn were fantastic to work with and they really understood our vision for the play area.

"Come rain or shine, the children now want to be outside playing on their new LazyLawn."

The company said it has seen an increasing number of schools opting for artificial grass as it is clean, low maintenance and durable.

LazyLawn sales and marketing director Andy Driver said: "It was fantastic to be able to help regenerate The Unicorn School's play area and give the children somewhere really enjoyable to have fun.
