COPS have issued new guidance about the use of "flying robots".
Thames Valley Police said unmanned aerial vehicles – known as 'drones' – more becoming more popular but warned "a minority of users continue to fly them irresponsibly."
The misuse of drones is a criminal offence, the force said.
Users are not allowed to fly them higher than 400ft in altitude or further than 500 metres away horizontally without special permission from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Flying them within 150 metres of a congested area or 50 metres of a person or vehicle is also illegal.
Police added: "While we would not look to criminalise people for innocent misuse, other enforcement outcomes can be considered."
