MORE staff have been bought in to deal with the high demand for summer activity days in North Oxfordshire.

Every year Cherwell District Council run holiday hubs for children whose parents may be working during the week, but this year the sessions have nearly sold out already.

The recreation and sports team has now made an extra 20 places available for sessions in Banbury, Bicester and Bloxham between August 1 and September 2.

Council deputy leader George Reynolds said: "The summer hubs are now under way and district children are getting stuck into sports, games, arts and crafts.

"The high demand continues the trend we have witnesses over the past year.

"I applaud our recreation and sports team for the success they are making of the hubs and for going the extra mile to facilitate the extra capacity.

"I am delighted that Cherwell parents are capitalising on this cost-effective way to keep children active and entertained over summer and I expect to see the additional sixty places being taken up over the next few days."

As well as regular sports, arts, crafts and games, there will also be guest activities including swimming, table tennis, fencing and archery.

Sessions run from 8.45am to 3pm at North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury, Cooper School Sports Facility in Bicester and The Warriner School in Bloxham.
