A TREASURE hunt for an extra special summer read will kick off book month in the Witney Oxfam bookshop this August.

A signed copy by one of the nation's best loved authors is hidden among the store's shelves and book-lovers are urged to come and see if they can find it, to win a special prize.

And to encourage reading over the summer, the shop's volunteers have also packed its shelves with current bestsellers, classics, travel guides, children’s favourites and more.

Jane Oldfield, book shop manager said: "Browsing our shelves is always an adventure as they are stacked with stories created by wonderful imaginations, and tales and tips from experts on all sorts of interests and pastimes.

"And if the choice on offer is slightly overwhelming, ask our staff for personal recommendations because we are avid readers too. But the best thing about our books is that they are so affordable you can buy a summer's worth of reading and change people's lives for the better at the same time."

The shop has a summer promotion on hardback fiction with many titles at only a pound.

Oxfam has been selling books in its network of shops for more than 50 years, raising millions of pounds to help end extreme poverty around the world.

The Witney bookshop opened nine years ago this summer.
