BAKERS across the county can test their skills in a top competition this August to celebrate the birthday of a famous landscape designer.

The Capability Brown Festival is launching Brown's Birthday Bake - where keen bakers can create a birthday cake for 18th century landscape architect Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, who designed the grounds of Blenheim Palace.

Participants, who must be aged over 18, have until August 21 to submit their entries, and must do so via social media - either via Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest using the hashtag #brownsbirthdaybake.

A small team of judges will review the entries, from which three winners will be selected with the results announced on social media on August 30, the day of Brown's baptism. Historians have always been unsure when is official birthday is.

Prizes include a luxurious overnight stay in a Brown landscape and a champagne hamper.
