ONE of Banbury's historic signal boxes will be demolished tomorrow, while the other is set to open next week as a temporary visitor centre.

Workers from Network Rail will be on site by the train station in the morning to tear down the north signal box, as part of £76 million upgrades to the railway network.

Following an unsuccessful campaign from locals railway enthusiasts to save the south box, the building will be open for guided tours from August 8 for people to learn more about its history.

The south box will be demolished on October 8.
