ALLOTMENT holders are invited to celebrate their fresh produce at a special party to celebrate National Allotment Week.

Spital Farm Allotments Association in Banbury is holding a "Party on the Plot" on August 13 to encourage people to come and learn about the value of having an allotment on their doorstep.

There will be sales of plants raising money for Oxfordshire Mind, quizzes and games, and the chance to chat to allotment holders about growing food.

The local association, which has more than 80 members, is working alongside the National Allotment Society for the special week between August 8-14.

Spital Farm Allotment Association site secretary Alison Page said: "We really hope our Party will be a huge draw for the local residents, as we want to show how brilliant allotments are.

"It’s a chance to have a wander around the site and see the variety of ways people choose to grow their own produce."

This year's National Allotments Week has "Growing Together" as its theme, and is meant to celebrate the inclusive nature of allotments and allowing people from all walks of life to grow their own food.

The event, in Thorpe Way, is free and will run from 2pm until 4pm.
