A PRE-SCHOOL in Blackbird Leys that closed down in 2014 has donated its remaining funds to good causes across the estate.

The Shepherds Hill centre in Dunnock Way was forced to shut its doors after being vacated from Windale Primary School and finding no other available home.

Members of Blackbird Leys Parish Council received a letter along with a donation of £700 from former Shepherds Hill manager Sarah Pearson.

It read: "Over the past two years we have been closing our accounts and as part of this we now have funds to donate to other charities working with children.

"The parent committee and staff chose your charity as a recipient and I enclose a cheque to support your valuable work."

At the time Shepherds Hill, which looked after 88 children, was the second pre-school in the Leys to close in a few short months after the Little Doves pre-school came to an end due to staff shortages.

At a meeting on Tuesday night councillors pronounced the gesture "lovely" and plan to use the extra £700 to bolster their efforts supporting the Dovecote Project in Greater Leys, which offers after-school activities and playschemes to under-eights and is also at risk of closure.
