EXPLOSIONS lit up the sky over Weston on the Green after a fire took hold of an industrial unit on Monday night.

Firefighters from five crews were called to Fir Tree Farm where there one of the farm workshops was alight about 10pm.

The workshop contained heavy machinery and gas cylinders, which were quickly removed before they blew up.

But pops and little explosions from aerosol cans stored in the workshop could be heard by residents nearby as they described flames lighting up the night sky.

Bicester fire station crew manager Pete MacKay said: "We were the second crew to get to the fire with the Kidlington crew already on site.

"The fire was in a building towards the back of the farm, which appeared to be a building that had been turned into an industrial workshop.

"The fire was quite well evolved by the time we were there and there were quite a number of cylinders, which luckily were removed before the fire reached them.

"The explosions heard or pops were aerosols and luckily the bigger cylinders were brought out in time."

Linda Haynes commented on Facebook saying: "Watching the explosions last night. All ok but really lit up the sky over Weston."

Crews from Bicester, Oxford and Kidlington all attended. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
