THE 70th annual Eynsham Carnival will be held this weekend, with a fancy-dress parade, shirt race and even a historical exhibition showing how the popular event has grown through the years.

Due to be held on the recreation ground this Saturday the carnival is supported by The Royal British Legion, Eynsham Scouting groups, St Leonard's Church and the Rotary Club of Eynsham.

As well as the annual parade and shirt race, there will also be stalls, activities for young and old, and a wide variety of food and drink.

Martin Harris, who to celebrate this year's carnival has written a book on its 70 years, said: "Eynsham Carnival is an amazing annual event and a great example of a community at its best.

"I always look forward to it. I just admire all the work that goes into it."

The carnival will be held on Saturday from 12pm to 6pm at the Eynsham recreation ground. Anyone interested in volunteering on or before the day can contact Clive Tanner on 01865 880994.

The book by Mr Harris, Eynsham Carnival Throughout the Years, is now available to buy from Evenlode DIY in the village, and also via amazon.co.uk at £9.95. It was published by Witney firm Robert Boyd Publications.
