BAKERS could be in with a chance of being Oxfordshire's next cake king or queen, as the second annual Big Thame Bake fast approaches.

The popular cake making event, part of this year's Thame Food Festival, is now calling for entries and organisers want people of all walks of life to get involved.

Festival patron Lotte Duncan said: "If more people in this world made and ate cake, there really would be less trouble and war. Surely politicians wouldn't make so many silly decisions if they had a nice Victoria Sponge in front of them? It really is the answer to happiness and world peace."

There are prizes to be won and also the chance to meet some of the biggest names in the world of baking, including Great British Bake Off's Miranda Gore-Brown, Chetna Makan and Richard Burr.

Natalie Coleman is looking after the children's category and chocolate expert Will Torrent will be judging the chocolate cakes.

Judges will be bread maker Richard Bertinet as well as the team from Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, Benoit Blin, Adam Johnson and Mark Peregrin.

All ages and abilities are welcome to apply, and organisers want businesses to join in too.

All money raised will be split between a donation to the Thame Food Bank and to help ensure that Thame Food Festival can continue running for another year.

Thame Food Festival, and the Big Thame Bake, will be held on Saturday, September 24.
