VILLAGERS who share the same age as the Queen will chink china teacups and toast to old age.

Residents will reminisce about 90 years of living at a tea party in Kennington on Thursday.

Church warden Isabel Baggot, who will help to host the sandwich-fuelled celebration at St Swithun's Church, said: "It's a nice event tying in with the Queen's birthday and the fact that we have quite a lot of 90 year-olds in the church and in the village. It's a chance to socialise, people are still very active these days in taking part in the community and this is something else to celebrate.

"We particularly invited those who have had 90th birthdays reasonably recently and those special guests will be bringing friends. We have got about 20-25 people coming and of those about half will be over the age of 90.

"It's really important that the church is there to serve the community. We want to do things for people to enjoy, we run a holiday club for young people and this was a chance to run something for people of an older age.

"We are hoping to make it a bit of a special tea, the sort of thing you might get in a posh hotel with little cakes, sandwiches and scones."

The tea party, which was organised by the church's social and fundraising committee, begins at 3pm in the garden or the church hall depending on weather.
