FOLK singers Fotheringay will be taking to the stage at the Mill Arts Centre later this month as part of their national tour.

The group, formed in 1970 by singer Sandy Denny, will be visiting Banbury on June 27.

The tour follows the release of their new four-disc box set, called "Nothing more, the Collected Fotheringay", and celebrates the musical achievements of the band's members over the last 40 years.

It will also be a reunion for the band who were only active for one year until 1971, but still includes original members Jerry Donahue, Gerry Conway and Pat Donaldson.

The band drew its name from founder Sandy Denny's 1968 composition "Fotheringay" about Fotheringay Castle, in which Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned.

The song originally appeared on the 1969 album by her former group Fairport Convention, called "What We Did On Her Holidays" - her first album with that group.

During their tour the group will also be playing in Southampton, Gateshead and a recently-added date at the Under The Bridge venue next to Chelsea FC's Stamford Bridge stadium.

Tickets cost £20 in advance, and are available at themillartscentre.co.uk.
