A STUDENT midwife was honoured for her passion and commitment at an awards ceremony in London.

The Outstanding Academic Achievement Award was presented to Jane Carpenter, a student studying midwifery at Oxford Brookes University.

Miss Carpenter was recognised by Cavell Nurses’ Trust for her enthusiasm, commitment and hard work in her studies.

She was awarded a £1,500 prize fund to put towards a travel placement of her choice, which is hoped will enable her to develop her skills as a midwife.

She said: "I’m honoured to have won this award and to have the opportunity to attend the International Conference for Normal Birth, taking place in Australia later this year, which is what I will be putting my prize fund towards."

The ceremony took place in front of an audience of nurses, midwives and healthcare leaders from around the UK.

Special guest speaker at the ceremony, Sally Gunnell OBE DL said: "It’s a real pleasure to share in the excitement of the Cavell Nurses’ Trust Awards. The world of athletics demands commitment and determination and it’s fantastic to see nurses and midwives are recognised for those values too."
