PUPILS with learning difficulties at a school in Wheatley won an Oxfordshire consumer challenge quiz run by the Trading Standards team.

The annual event at Unipart House offers youngsters with learning difficulties a chance to put their consumer skills and knowledge to the test, with the John Watson School coming up trumps in 2016.

Ten schools from across the county including Mabel Prichard school in Blackbird Ley, Fitzwaryn School in Wantage, Springfield School in Witney and the Endeavour Academy in Headington took part, with the Iffley Academy coming a close second overall. The quiz was mainly visual and hands-on rather than in traditional 'question and answer' format.

A poetry competition and mascot-making competition were also held, won by Woodeaton Manor and Kingfisher School in Abingdon for their hand-made pottery kingfisher.

Lord Mayor of Oxford Rae Humberstone presented the prizes to the winners, with goody bags and Easter eggs for all participants.

Richard Webb, Oxfordshire County Council's Trading Standards manager and quiz master for the day, said: "It was a fantastic, lively event and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The quiz is for children with learning difficulties and is a chance for them to demonstrate their skills in a hand-on, team effot way."
