ELECTION: Price's joy at Smith's result

OXFORD City Council leader Bob Price has said it would have been a ‘disaster’ for the city if Andrew Smith had lost the Labour seat.

Speaking at Oxford Town Hall ahead of the election result for the Oxford East constituency, Mr Price said Lib Dem challenger Steve Goddard had not proved he could deliver for ordinary people.

Mr Price said: “It was very tight. Clearly, there had been a very significant student vote which probably went slightly against Labour, but from the boxes I saw there was a very good vote for Andrew across the city.

“I think it would have been a disaster for Oxford if Andrew lost, because he has been a magnificent MP for the city.”

On behalf of the African community which am the secretary, I would like to congratulate our MP. Hon. Andrew Smith for winning again. We the Africans have worked hard in campaigning for him because of what he has done in the past to the community of which the majority are the poor class. Him humility is beyond words and we are happy to have him as our MP hoping he will even work harder with our support to make Oxford a good living place. We enouraged the past non voters to cast their votes to ensure Lib. not to wi. We can now relax as our choice of MP has won. CONGLATULATIONS.

OK I'll re-phrase it. What 'personal sacrifice' have you given up to enable Andrew Smith to become MP.
