A tale of two Julies has a happy ending
Two ‘Julies’ were determined to help when a public appeal was launched to raise money for the proposed Ferry swimming pool in North Oxford.
Julie Beale, left, and Julie Butterworth, both 10, put on a stage production in the Beale family garden in Templar Road in 1972 and invited parents and friends to form an audience.
Admission charges and refreshments brought in £1.40, which the girls later gave to the pool fund.
The production told the story of a dog and cat called Paddy and Snowy and like all good fairytales, it included a fight, ghosts and a wedding – with a surprise honeymoon in Aberdeen!
