Zoe Clarke, 10 – dubbed the Blonde Bombshell – powered to victory in a heat of the under-12 running race in the village Bank Holiday Races in 1985, seen in the firt picture. Apart from children’s events, there was a slow bicycle race, a sack race, a wheelbarrow race and even a lawnmower race.

The youth club met in a former chicken house and to raise money to redecorate their headquarters, members organised a sports day in 1967. Walter Preedy and Derek Haynes are seen in the second picture examining their damaged vehicle after winning the pram race.

The six bells at SS Peter and Paul Church, weighing three tons, were removed in 1986 to be retuned and recast, while the old oak frame housing them was replaced with a steel one. The third picture shows, from left, Graham Clifton, Charles Lee, Ron Gardner, Dorothy Clifton and John Ray.
