STONESFIELD scouts came to the rescue when the cock on the church tower weather vane needed sprucing up.
Scout leader Clive Sutton spotted the cock’s sorry state in 1992 when he climbed the tower to take photographs of the village.
He said: “It is at least 30 years since it had any attention and it is between 70 and 100 years old.”
The Scouts sanded down the vane and gave it a fresh coat of paint before restoring it to its rightful place to earn their Jobman badge.
Pictured with Mr Sutton are Zac Safficaacman, 10, Robert Norman, 10, William Astle, 11, and Stephen Evans, 11.
