MEMBERS of the Methodist Church at Kennington had to worship in their own homes or hire the village hall because they had no building of their own.
But all that was due to change when work started on their church in Upper Road in 1967 Surrounded by excavators, cement mixers and building materials, Hilda Robinson, of Bayworth Manor, laid the foundation stone.
She is pictured with the Rev Rodney Cocks, minister at Kennington, and the Rev Donald Rose, Superintendent of the Oxford Circuit.
The land was sold to the church cheaply by Edith Gandy, a staunch Methodist supporter. The building cost £13,500, to which the Methodist Church had promised £10,000.
