PETER Pan flew into Oxford's Greycotes School in March 1979.

J. M. Barrie's timeless play was the school's choice for its opening golden jubilee event.

More than 130 pupils took part in the production.

Headmistress Joan Tranter said: "We have involved every child over the age of six at the school.

"The little ones and their parents will be attending the dress rehearsal."

The play was also chosen by the school to celebrate the International Year of the Child.

Later in the year the school also marked its 50th anniversary by holding open days for parents and former pupils.

The school was founded as a girls' private school by Cecilia Mary Cunliffe in 1929.

A fire in 1971 destroyed many of the school's records, but teachers were hoping that former pupils would hear about the celebrations and return to the school.
