TEETERING across their swimming pool certainly made a break from lessons for children at an Oxford school in July 1965.

Juniors from Barton First School tackled the tricky bridge of makeshift floats as part of an obstacle course set up for them in the school grounds by teachers.

Infants took their turn to scramble through barrels and wriggle under netting.

And even tiny tots, including four-year-old Katie Smith (pictured), from nursery classes took part with parents on hand to help them out.

Sebastian Williams, four, of Bernwood Road, said: "It wasn't hard, it was fun, and I didn't get stuck."

Headteacher Sylvia Wilkinson thought up the idea as a bit of light-hearted summer madness.

She said: "We've not done it before but the children all enjoyed it."
