I WAS interested to see your feature on the wartime Civil Defence messengers in 1944 (Memory Lane, January 11).

My name was then was Jean Clinch and I used to meet this same group of young people at Donnington School.

Unfortunately, I was not around for the photo session that evening, but have treasured the photograph for years.

I know all the faces, but not the names. In the top row, third from right, is Albert Hobbs, and at the end of the row is Nita Johnson. The family of Tom and Edna Haines, in the front row, third from the right and on the extreme right, had a large grocery store at The Plain.

Gordon Smith, third from the left in the front row, did his two years with the Fleet Air Arm. He and I corresponded during that time and some years later, were married at St Michael at the Northgate Church in Oxford.
