ROBERT Connolley, from New South Wales, in his letter, says he is intrigued by an earlier article on Southfield Grammar School in Oxford (Memory Lane, December 7).

Well, his letter has intrigued me! Is he the Robert Connolley who went to Southfield and worked in Blackwell’s bookshop in the 1960s?

I’ve attached a photograph of Blackwell’s football team during the latter half of the sixties in which we both appear.

Bob – as we knew him – is on the left in the back row (with glasses) and I’m kneeling in front of him. It was clearly a windy day, but I can’t remember where we were, although I can recall some of the names – Basil Foster, Len Smith, Bernard Roberts, Ken Rose and Ron Berry.

YES, that’s me! I spent four very happy years at Blackwell’s from the mid- to late-1960s.

I remember Richard well.

He came from Wallingford, I believe, and was a talented hockey player as well as a very good footballer.
