HOW wonderful to be reminded of Mr Pastry, in your picture story of Dick Whittington, the 1960 pantomime at the New Theatre, Oxford (Memory Lane, December 28).
As children, we would laugh at the antics of this bumbling old man.
We always looked forward to seeing him on our TV screens, and an appearance at a local theatre was a real bonus.
Today’s so-called comedians aren’t a patch on Mr Pastry and others from his era.
All we seem to get these days is bad language – many of those spouting this rubbish just aren’t funny.
